Welcome to a training programme that will transform how you think about design and your career.

The comprehensive course «Design: your strategic career. Build your future while still at university» is an intensive 15-hour programme of three five-hour modules. It is designed for ambitious interior designers and architects, as well as students of design schools and courses who want to build a successful career in a fast-moving market.

The main goal of this programme

to give students a practical and strategic vision of the designer's profession that goes beyond design alone. The programme's aim is to prepare future specialists to master the design business from their first years of study or right after graduating.

Module No. 1

The foundational documents of the designer's profession: the commercial proposal, contracts for design and delivery (construction, fit-out). You'll look at design from a business perspective, with defined rules.

Module No. 2

The rules for interacting and managing communications with all stakeholders in the design process, from the client to every company involved in the delivery phase (construction/fit-out) — at least 25–30 on every project, even the smallest. At these stages, both verbal and written communication are critically important.

Module No. 3

The rules for preparing for delivery. Working with all suppliers during the project's fit-out phase, including finishing materials, doors, plumbing and building systems (heating/air conditioning), standard furniture, custom furniture, appliances, lighting (technical/decorative/power sockets) and textiles (curtains). This module helps students understand how to organise their project from a practical, technical and economic standpoint.

By the end of this intensive course you'll have a clear picture of the design market and its career opportunities. You'll gain practical skills in client and budget management, effective communication and problem-solving. You'll be able to build a successful portfolio, promote your brand and plan your career strategically, becoming a leader in the industry.

Programme of study

Module 1: Legal and commercial fundamentals

Aim: to give a clear understanding of the contractual and commercial tools for running a design practice

  • Design is a business: the essential documents
  • The commercial proposal: structure and strategy
  • The design contract: rights and obligations
  • The legal side of implementation
  • A practical toolkit: templates and examples

Module 2: Communication and management

Aim: Master effective methods of verbal and written communication to manage all parties in the process professionally and effectively, preventing misunderstandings and conflicts

  • The project ecosystem: mapping the participants. The designer's role.
  • Communicating with clients: managing expectations and relationships
  • The role and rules of written communication in design.
  • Business coordination: instructions, deadlines, problems and their resolution
  • Communication in action: conflicts, tough negotiations, ways to resolve them

Module 3: Technical knowledge and mastering the supply chain

Aim: to give a systematic overview of the main product categories and suppliers, and teach how to select and integrate them into the project, taking into account technical, aesthetic and economic aspects

  • The supply chain in design: choosing suppliers and materials
  • Finishing materials. Windows. Doors. Technical specifications. Rules.
  • Technologies and engineering systems: the hidden infrastructure of a project
  • Furniture. Lighting. Accessories. Aesthetic and functional integration.
  • From theory to practice: the scope and evaluation of the project, moving on to material selection.
